Just prodding along with the present managing skills would not be desirable. Managing Gen Y and soon, Gen Z with the above changing landscape and “scarce” resources demand a gear shift in approach. The departure from the traditional managing approach to Leading style management is the critical turning point. Entrepreneurs and Managers need to graduate to the next level and adopt their leadership skills to steer their operations to weather the rough and turbulent sea of change as well as the need to manage conflict and discipline. Trainer
Associate Professor Dr. Michael Chiam has been in the Human Resource Management (HRM) arena for more than thirty years. He has a diverse background with exposures and experiences at the senior management level in Malaysia as well as overseas. Prior to this present position, he was attached to a MNC in the global shipping business as the chief of operations after some early years as a Financial Controller. In all these positions, leadership roles and practices were embedded in his engagement. His leadership experiences were displayed and tested in his involvement in leading Social Societies, Global Working Groups in International Organizations and in the last decade in the Public Sector.
He holds several public positions in HRM and is now the President of the Commercial Employers Association of Peninsular Malaysia, Member of MEF Council and also a former National Council Member of the SME Association of Malaysia. He is also appointed to serve as a Member in the National Labour Advisory Council of the Ministry of Human Resources as well as a Director of the Social Security Organization in Malaysia (SOCSO).
Dr Chiam is a Chartered Accountant and Corporate Secretary by profession as well as a Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. He holds an MBA and a Ph.D with research in Strategic HRM –Social Responsibilities. He was appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Swinburne University, Australia and also lectures on the Northampton University, UK top-up programs for the Masters Degree in Human Resource Management.
