Introduction
Ergonomics related injuries are quite common in the workplaces, affecting workers in all types of industry. Common injuries are related to lower back, neck, shoulders, hands, knees and feet. These injuries affecting workers’ abilities to perform works, high medical costs and adverse to productivity. Main root causes for these injuries are poor methods of working, poor work habits as well of substandard design of workplaces. In response, the Department of OSH (DOSH) has produced ERA Guidelines in 2017. Feedback from DOSH indicates that soon Initial ERA will become compulsory and DOSH strongly encourages employers to have Ergonomics Trained Person (ETP) to implement Initial ERA.
This training provides awareness on physical ergonomics in the workplaces and method to perform initial ERA. The focus will be on important of ergonomics, ergonomics risk factors, musculoskeletal disorders and ERA process. Participants are guided on how to do walkthrough, body symptoms survey, prescribed methods on how to detect ergonomics risk factors according to work activities and reporting method.
